For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-
400 grams of King Cole Big Value Baby DK yarn
TENSION – 1 pattern repeat & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch

Make 167ch, vst (see abbrev) into 5th ch from hook, * miss 3ch, 1 shell (see abbrev) into next ch, miss 3ch, vst into next ch, (see abbrev) * rpt from * to * to last 2ch, miss 1ch, 1tr into last ch. Turn. (21 vst + 20 shells)
2nd Row – 3ch, * vst into 1ch space on next vst, shell into 1ch space on next shell, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of tch. Turn.
Rpt 2nd Row until 70 rows have been worked or work measures approx 35.5 inches from beginning. Turn.
Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next (tr & 1ch space) * make 3ch, 1dc into next 1ch space, * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3tch, 1dc into tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.
Border – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each stitch and ch to last dc, work 3dc into last dc, 2dc into each row end down first side of blanket, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch along starting chain edge, 3dc into corner, work 2dc into each row end up second side of blanket, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc around blanket to end, working 3dc into corners and ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.
Textured Edge – (WS) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1dtr into next dc, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * around blanket, working 3 stitches into corners.
Fasten off.
Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends.
