Crochet Baby Baptism Coat – The sweet little christening coat is crocheted in the same stitch as my baby baptism shawl pattern, it is made to fit a 3-6 month baby, crochet it for a shower gift or for your own little one.

110 grams of King Cole Big Value Baby DK yarn

4.00mm Clover Crochet Hook, 3 small buttons

TENSION – 5tr & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch

Worked in one piece starting with yoke.

Make 55ch, (WS) work 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr in each ch to end. Turn. (52tr + 3ch) 

2nd Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3ch, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into last tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (65tr + 3ch)

3rd Row – 3ch, 1tr in each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

4th Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (86tr + 3ch)

5th Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1dtr into next tr, 1dc into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.  (87st)

6th Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next st, * 2tr into next st, 1tr into each of the next 2st, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into last st. Turn. (114tr + 3ch)

7th Row – as 3rd Row.

8th Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, * 1tr into each of next 2tr, 2tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3tch, 1tr into each of next 2tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (151tr + 3ch)

9th Row – 3ch, 1tr into each of next 75tr, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (152tr + 3ch)

10th Row – (Divide for Armholes) 3ch, 1tr into each of next 22tr, (front) miss 30tr, (sleeve) 1tr into each of next 47tr, (back) miss 30tr, (sleeve) 1tr into each of next 22tr, (front) 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (92tr + 3ch)

Commence with Skirt – 3ch, 1tr into next tr, miss 2tr, shell (see abbrev) into next tr, * miss 2tr, vst (see abbrev) into next tr, miss 2tr, shell into next next tr, * rpt * to * to last 3tr and 3tch, miss 2tr, 1tr into next tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (15 shells, 14 vst)

Pattern Row – 3ch, 1tr into next tr, work shell into 1ch space on next shell, * vst into 1ch space on next vst, shell into 1ch space on next shell, * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3tch, 1tr into tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Row until 11 rows have been worked. Turn.

Next Row – Missing all 1ch spaces work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (92dc)

Textured Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1dtr into next tr, 1dc into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last dc, work 1dc into last dc. DNT. (92st)

Button/Button Band – Make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 42dc evenly along into row ends up first side of coat work, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch around neck edge, 3dc into corner, work 43dc evenly along into row ends down second side of coat. Turn.

Buttonhole Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 24dc, * make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of the next 8dc, * rpt from * to * once, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into corner. Turn.

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each 2ch space and dc to end.

Fasten off.

With RS facing and working from neck downwards, work 1dc into each dc to end.

Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 – With RS facing, rejoin yarn to missed tr underarm, make 3ch, work 1tr into each of next 29tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (29tr + 3ch)

Next Row – 4ch, 1tr into base of 4ch, miss 2tr, shell into next tr, miss 2tr, * vst into next tr, miss 2tr shell into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr, miss tr’s, ss to 3rd of 4ch on beginning of row. Turn.
