ch3 counts as first dc.

Approx size to fit:  20 inch Chest, 6-12 Month Baby

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

100 grams of Paintbox Simply DK in color 1
50 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in color 2

An equivalent yarn would be a light worsted #3

3.50mm Clover crochet hook, 4 medium buttons

GAUGE – 6dc & 3 rows of dc measures approx 1 Inch

Worked in one piece starting with yoke.

Using color 1, ch65, (RS) 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in the next 7ch, (front) 3dc in next ch, 1dc in next 10ch, (shoulder) 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 21ch, (back) 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 10ch, (shoulder) 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 9ch. (front) Turn. (70dc + ch3)

2nd Row – ch3, * 1dc in each dc to 3dc group, 1dc in next dc, 3dc in centre dc on 3dc group, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc group, 1dc in next dc, 3dc in centre dc on 3dc group, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (78dc + ch3)

Fasten off. Join in color 2. 

3rd to 10th Row – ch3, * 1dc in each dc to 3dc group, 1dc in next dc, 3dc in centre dc on 3dc group, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc group, 1dc in next dc, 3dc in centre dc on 3dc group, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.

You should have 142dc + ch3.

Fasten off. Join in color 1.

11th & 12th Rows – Rpt 2nd Row. Turn. (158dc + ch3)

13th Row – (Divide for armholes & Inc) – ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to 3dc group on corner, 2dc in next dc, 1dc in centre dc on corner, skip 34dc, 1dc in centre dc of 3dc group on next corner, rpt from * to * to centre dc on next corner, 2dc in centre dc, skip 34dc, 1dc in centre dc of next corner, 1dc in next dc, rpt from * to * to last dc and 3tch, 2dc in dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (120dc + ch3)

Commence Skirt – (WS) ch3, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * ch2, skip 1dc, 1dc in each of next 5dc,* rpt from * to * to last 3dc and 3tch, work ch2, skip 1dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (19, 5dc blocks plus 2 half blocks at each end)

15th Row – ch3, skip first 2dc, * 6dc in ch2 space, skip 2dc, fptrc (see abbrev) around next dc, skip next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to last ch2 space, 2dc and 3tch, skip 2dc, 6dc in ch2 space, skip 2dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (20, 6dc groups)

16th Row – ch3, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * ch2, skip 2dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, bptrc (see abbrev) around next trc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to last 4dc and 3tch, ch2, skip 2dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (19, blocks plus 2 half blocks at each end)

17th Row – ch3, skip first 2dc, * 6dc in ch2 space, skip 2dc, 1fptrc around next trc, skip next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to last ch2 space, 2dc and 3tch, 6dc in ch2 space, skip 2dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (20, 6dc groups)

Rpt 16th & 17th Rows until seven complete patterns have been worked from yoke or your work measures from shoulder approx 12 inches.

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

Rpt 16th & 17th Rows once.

Fasten off.

Buttonhole Band – With WS facing and color 2, start at neck edge on right hand side and working down front edge to bottom of jacket, work 2sc in each row end to end. Turn. (59sc)

Next Row – (Buttonholes) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 32sc, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in next 7sc, * rpt from * to * twice more, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in last 2sc. Turn. (4 buttonholes made)

Fasten off.

Button Band – With WS facing, join color 2 to bottom of jacket on left hand side, working up front edge towards neck, work 2sc in row ends evenly along. Turn. (59sc)

Starting with ch1 work one more row of sc on these stitches. Turn.

Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to neck edge, 3sc in corner, 1sc in sc row end, 1sc in each ch around neck, 1sc in sc row end, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc and ch2 space to end.

Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose threads of yarn, turn through to RS side, sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.

Flower Motif

Made in rounds without turning.

With color 1 ch5, sl st to first ch to form a ring, work ch1, 12sc in ring, sl st to first sc.

Fasten off.

Second Row – Join in color 2 with a sl st, * ch10, skip 1sc, sl st in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last sc, ch10, skip last sc, sl st to first sl st. (6, 10ch spaces)

Third Row – * sl st in 10ch space, work (ch3, 5dc, ch2, 6dc) in same space, sl st to next sl st, * rpt from * to * to end. (6 petals)

Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose threads of yarn, attach flower to coat.
