This beautiful crochet baby two piece set is made in light worsted #3 yarn (DK for UK) to fit a 3-6 month baby, using a 4.50mm hook, but you can use bigger or smaller hook sizes to make the outfit the size you need.

110 grams of King Cole Baby Comfort DK in colour 1
60 grams of King Cole Baby Comfort DK in colour 2

4.50mm crochet hook, 3 small buttons

You can for a:-
Newborn baby use a 3.50mm hook
0-3 month use a 4.00mm hook
6-12 month use a 5.00mm hook.

TENSION – 4tr and 2 rows measures approx 1 Inch

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Matinee Coat – Worked in one piece, starting with yoke. Using colour 1, make 55ch, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr in each ch to end. Turn. (52tr + 3ch)

2nd Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3ch, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into last tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (65tr + 3ch)

3rd Row – 3ch, 1tr in each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. 

4th Row – (Inc Row) Join in colour 2, make 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to end, working last tr into top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (81tr + 3ch)

5th Row – Join in colour 1 and rpt 3rd Row.

7th Row – Join in colour 2 and rpt 3rd Row. Fasten off.

9th Row – (Divide for Armholes) Make 3ch, 1tr into each of next 22tr, miss 26tr, (armhole) 1tr into each of next 47tr, miss 26tr, (armhole) 1tr into each of next 22tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (92tr + 3ch)

Commence with Skirt – 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, miss 1tr, (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into next tr, * miss 1tr, (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3ch, miss tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (45, 2ch spaces)

Pattern Row 1 – 3ch, 3tr into each 2ch space to end, 1tr into last dc. Turn. (45, 3tr groups)

Join in colour 1 to first tr work Pattern Row 2 once.

Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once more. Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 – With RS facing join colour 1 to the first of the 26tr you missed for armhole, 3ch, 1tr into each of next 25tr, ss to top of 3ch at beginning of round. Turn. (25tr + 3ch)

Round 2 – ss into first tr, * (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into next tr, miss 1tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr, miss tr, ss to first dc on beginning of row to make a round. Turn. (12, 2ch spaces)

Pattern Round 1 – ss into 2ch space, 3ch, 2tr into same space, work 3tr into each 2ch space to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round. Turn. (12, 3tr groups)

Pattern Round 2 – ss into first tr, (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into next tr, * miss 2tr, (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into centre tr of 3tr group, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc on beginning of round. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Rounds 1 & 2 until seven rounds have been worked in all from yoke or underarm sleeve seam measures approx 3 Inches.

Rpt Pattern Round 1 in colour 2 once. Turn. Fasten off.

Rpt Pattern Round 2 in colour 1 once. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Rounds 1 & 2 once. Fasten off.

Button/Buttonhole Bands – With RS facing, join colour 1 to lower edge of right hand side of front edge, work 40ss loosely into row ends evenly up front edge to corner. Turn.

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each ss to end. Turn.

Buttonhole Row – Make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each of next 24dc, * 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next 6dc * rpt from * to * once, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into last dc. Turn. (3 Buttonholes made)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work one more row of 1dc into each dc and 2ch space to end. Fasten off.

Button Band – Working downwards join colour 1 to neck edge on opposite front, work 40ss loosely into row ends evenly down front edge to corner. Turn.

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each ss to end. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch and turning at the end of each row, work 2 more rows of 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.

Pants – Using colour 2, make 10ch loosely. Fasten off. (leave to one side as we will come back to later)

Back – Using colour 2, make 45ch loosely, work 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (42tr + 3ch)

Next Row – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Rpt last row until 9 rows have been worked. Fasten off. Turn.

Shape legs – Miss 10tr, join yarn to next tr, 3ch, dec 1tr (see abbrev) over next 2tr, 1tr into each of next 17tr, dec 1tr over next 2tr, 1tr into next tr, turn leaving 9tr + 3ch un-worked. (20tr + 3ch)

Decrease Row – 3ch, dec 1tr over next 2tr, 1tr into each tr to last 2tr and 3ch, dec 1tr over next 2tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (18tr + 3ch)

Rpt Decrease Row until 10tr + 3ch remain. Turn.

Crotch – 1ch, 1dc into base of ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (11dc)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 3 more rows of 1dc into each dc to end, turning at the end of each row.

Next Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, 2tr into next dc, 1tr into each dc to last 2dc, 2tr into next dc, 1tr into last dc. Turn.

Increase Row – 3ch, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each tr to last 2tr, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Rpt Increase Row until you have 22tr + 3ch. Turn.

Front – Make 12ch loosely, 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each of next 8ch, 1tr into each of next 22tr, 1tr into top of 3ch, return to 10ch made earlier and work 1tr into each of the 10ch. Turn. (42tr +3ch)

Next Row – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Rpt last row 7 more times. Fasten off.

Fold in half so the front covers the back, over sew with needle and yarn or ss side seams together, this will now be your WS.

Waist Band – With colour 2 and RS facing, join yarn with a ss at side of waist, work 1ch, 1dc into each tr around back and 1dc in each ch around front of knickers, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn.

Join in colour 1, starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 2 rows of 1dc into each dc to end, slip stitching to first dc and turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2, starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.

First Leg Edging – With RS facing join colour 2 yarn to centre of crotch with a ss, work 47ss loosely and evenly around leg, ss to first ss on beginning of row. DNT.

Starting with 1ch, work 1dc into each ss to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn.

Join in colour 1, starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 2 rows of 1dc into each dc to end, slip stitching to first dc and turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2, starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.

Second Leg Edging – Rpt First Leg Edging.

Chain Tie – With colour 1 make 121ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Fasten off.

Finishing – Close small gaps under arms, weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn on coat and pants, attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes, thread chain tie through alternate tr’s on waist of pants and tie in a bow.
