150 grams of King Cole Baby Comfort DK in colour 1
100 grams of King Cole Baby Comfort DK in colour 2

4.00mm crochet hook, 11 small buttons (7 back of rompers, 4 jacket)

Use a 4.50mm for 0-3 month baby
Use a 5.00mm for 3-6 month baby

TENSION – 5tr & 3.5 rows measures approx 1 inch

Button/Buttonhole Bands – Written for a boy, swap sides for a girl.

Button band – With colour 1 and WS facing, starting at lower edge on left hand side of rompers, work 41dc evenly up left front edge to neck, 3dc into corner, work 1dc into each ch along neck edge, 3dc into corner, work 41dc evenly down right front edge. Turn. Fasten off. (133dc)

Next Row – Join in colour 2 and with RS facing, work 1ch, 1dc into dc at base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc up right front edge to centre dc on corner. Turn. Fasten off. (43dc)

Join in colour 1 and work 2 rows of dc on these 43dc. Fasten off.

Buttonhole band – Written for a boy, swap sides for a girl.

Return to second side and with RS side facing working from neck downwards join in colour 2 make 1ch, 1dc into base of dc, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. Fasten off. (43dc)

Buttonhole Row – Written for a boy, change sides for a girl.

Join in colour 1 make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next 4dc, * 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next 5dc, * rpt from * to * last 2dc, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into last dc. Turn. (7 buttonholes)

Work one more row of 1dc into each dc and 2ch space to end. Fasten off. (43dc)

Finishing – With right side of work facing, overlap the buttonhole band onto the button band and sew bottom of both bands to top of legs. Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn.

Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.

Jacket – Using colour 2, rpt from # # to # # from rompers, changing to colour 1 on the 7th Row.

Rpt the Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once more. Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 – With colour 2 and WS facing, rejoin yarn to same dc at base of armhole where you divided, 1ch, 2htr into base of 1ch, 1ch, miss next 2tr, 1dc into next tr, * make 3ch, miss next tr, 1dc into next tr, 1ch, 1htr into next dc, 1ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into next tr, * rpt from * to *  twice more, make 3ch, miss next tr, 1dc into next tr, 1ch, 1htr into same dc where you divided for armhole, 1ch, working into the bottom of 7tr group on skirt of jacket, (see pictures) miss first 3tr, 1dc between next tr, make 3ch, miss 1tr, 1dc between next tr, 1ch, miss 3tr, ss to first htr on beginning of row. Next row – Join in colour 1 make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2 and rpt last row twice more. Fasten off.

Buttonhole Band – Return to second side and with WS side facing join in colour 2, working from bottom edge up, work 25dc evenly along edge to neck. Turn. Fasten off.

Join in colour 1 work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.

Buttonholes – Join in colour 2 make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next 4dc, * 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next 5dc, * rpt from * to * last 2dc, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into last dc. Turn. (4 buttonholes)

Staring with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1 more row of 1dc into each dc and 2ch space to end. Fasten off.

Collar – With WS facing join colour 2 to first ch after the front button band, make 3ch, work 1tr in each ch to end, turn leaving button band un-worked. (46tr + 3ch)

Brim – With WS facing join colour 2 to starting chain edge, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each ch to end, ss to first dc. Turn. (70dc)

Working into the front loop only for row two rpt Rows Two & Three once.

Rpt Rows Four & Five twice.

You should have three 7tr group rows worked for brim. Turn.

Fold brim onto RS of hat.

With WS side facing join colour 2 to bottom of brim, make 1ch, work 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc along brim to end, ss to first dc. Turn. (70dc)

Rpt last row once. Fasten off.

Centre the slip stitch seam to the back. Using the length of yarn left earlier, thread through alternate dc’s and gather your work on crown, sew securely.

Earflap’s x 2 – With WS facing and counting from back seam, miss 12dc, join colour 2 to next dc, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 7dc. Turn leaving 50dc un-worked. (8dc)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch and turning at the end of each row, work 3 more rows of 1dc into each dc to end.

Turning at the end of row, dec 1dc (see abbrev) each end of next 3 rows, until 2dc remain.

Slip stitch to next dc to make a point, make 41ch to tie with. Fasten off.

Miss 30dc, join colour 2 to next dc and continue same as first earflap.

Using colour 2 make a Pom-pom, I used clover pom-pom maker size 65.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn.

Slip Stitching at the end of each row continue on these stitches in Pattern Rows as set until 5, 7dc group rows have been worked from division. Turn.

Continue and complete the cuff same as first leg.

Button/Buttonhole Bands – Written for a boy, swap sides for a girl.

Button band – With color 1 and WS facing, starting at lower edge on left hand side of rompers, work 41sc evenly up left front edge to neck, 3sc in corner, work 1sc in each ch along neck edge, 3sc in corner, work 41sc evenly down right front edge. Turn. Fasten off. (133sc)

Next Row – Join in color 2 and with RS facing, ch1, 1sc in sc at base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc up right front edge to centre sc on corner. Turn. Fasten off. (43sc)

Join in color 1 and work 2 rows of sc on these 43sc. Fasten off.

Buttonhole band – Written for a boy, swap sides for a girl.

Return to second side and with RS side facing working from neck downwards join in color 2, ch1, 1sc in base of sc, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn. Fasten off. (43sc)

Buttonhole Row – Written for a boy, change sides for a girl.

Join in color 1 ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in next 4sc, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in next 5sc, * rpt from * to * last 2sc, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in last sc. Turn. (7 buttonholes)

Work one more row of 1sc in each sc and ch2 space to end. Fasten off. (43sc)

Finishing – With right side of work facing, overlap the buttonhole band onto the button band and sew bottom of both bands to top of legs. Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn.

Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.

Jacket – Using color 2, rpt from # # to # # from rompers, changing to color 1 on the 7th Row.

Rpt the Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once more. Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 – With color 2 and WS facing, rejoin yarn to same sc at base of armhole where you divided, ch1, 2hdc in base of ch1, ch1, skip next 2dc, 1sc in next dc, * ch3, skip next dc, 1sc in next dc, ch1, 1hdc in next sc, ch1, skip 2dc, 1sc in next dc, * rpt from * to *  twice more, ch3, skip next dc, 1sc in next dc, ch1, 1hdc in same sc where you divided for armhole, ch1, working in the bottom of 7dc group on skirt of jacket, (see pictures) skip first 3dc, 1sc between next dc, ch3, skip 1dc, 1sc between next dc, ch1, skip 3dc, sl st to first hdc on beginning of row. Button Band – With color 2 and WS facing, starting at neck edge on right hand side of jacket, work 25sc evenly down right front edge. Turn. Fasten off.

Next row – Join in color 1 ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn. Fasten off.

Join in color 2 and rpt last row twice more. Fasten off.

Buttonhole Band – Return to second side and with WS side facing join in color 2, working from bottom edge up, work 25sc evenly along edge to neck. Turn. Fasten off.

Join in color 1, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Fasten off.

Buttonholes – Join in color 2, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in next 4sc, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in next 5sc, * rpt from * to * last 2sc, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in last sc. Turn. (4 buttonholes)

Staring with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1 more row of 1sc in each sc and ch2 space to end. Fasten off.

Fasten off leaving long a length of yarn to gather top.

Brim – With WS facing join color 2 to starting chain edge, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ch to end, sl st to first sc. Turn. (70sc)

Working in the front loop only for row two rpt Rows Two & Three once.

Rpt Rows Four & Five twice.

You should have three 7dc group rows worked for brim. Turn.

Fold brim onto RS of hat.

With WS side facing join color 2 to bottom of brim, ch1, work 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc along brim to end, sl st to first sc. Turn. (70sc)

Rpt last row once. Fasten off.

Centre the slip stitch seam to the back. Using the length of yarn left earlier, thread through alternate sc’s and gather your work on crown, sew securely.

Earflap’s x 2 – With WS facing and counting from back seam, skip 12sc, join color 2 to next sc, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 7sc. Turn leaving 50sc un-worked. (8sc)

Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1 and turning at the end of each row, work 3 more rows of 1sc in each sc to end.

Turning at the end of row, dec 1sc (see abbrev) each end of next 3 rows, until 2sc remain.

Slip stitch to next sc to make a point, ch41 to tie with. Fasten off.

Skip 30sc, join color 2 to next sc and continue same as first earflap.

Using color 2 make a Pom-pom, I used Clover Pom-Pom maker number 65.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn.
