Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

100 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in colour 1
30 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in colour 2

An equivalent yarn would be a light worsted #3

4.50mm & 4.00mm Clover Crochet Hooks, 1 medium button.

TENSION – 5tr and 2 rows measures approx 1 Inch

Front and back made in rounds without turning.

Back – With colour 1 make magic circle, using 4.00mm hook (RS) work 3ch, 13tr into circle, close circle by pulling loose thread, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Fasten off. (13tr + 3ch)

2nd Round – Join in colour 2 with a ss to between 3ch and first tr, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, make 1ch, * 1dc into space between next 2tr’s, 1ch, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc. (14dc + 14, 1ch spaces)

3rd Round – ss to first 1ch space, 3ch, tr2tog into same space, * 2ch, tr3tog into next 1ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, make 2ch, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Fasten off. (14, tr3tog) (see abbrev for tr2tog and tr3tog)

4th Round – Join colour 1 to first 2ch space with a ss, make 3ch, 3tr into same space, miss tr3tog, * 4tr into next 2ch space, miss tr3tog, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (55tr + 3ch)

5th Round – 3ch, 1tr into first tr, make 2ch, * tr2tog over next 2tr, 2ch, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Fasten off. (28, tr2tog)

6th Round – Join in colour 2 to first 2ch space with a ss, work 3ch, 2tr into same space, * miss tr2tog, 3tr into next 2ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (83tr + 3ch)

7th Round – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, make 4ch, miss 2tr, * 1dc into space between next 3tr, 4ch, miss 3tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc. Fasten off. (28ch spaces, 28dc)

8th Round – Join colour 1 with ss to first 4ch space, make 3ch, tr3tog into same space, * make 4ch, tr4tog into next 4ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, make 4ch, ss to top of tr3tog on beginning of row. (28, tr4tog)

9th Round – ss to first 4ch space, work 3ch, 3tr into same space, * miss tr4tog, 4tr into next 4ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (111tr + 3ch)

10th Round – 3ch, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr, work 2tr into last tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Fasten off. (139tr + 3ch)

Miss 3ch and 49tr, place the first colour marker into next tr, miss 40tr, place the second colour marker into next tr. Put the back of the bag to one side and we will come back to it later.

Front – Rpt 1st to 10th Rounds

Side Panel – With RS facing, miss 3tch and 89tr, join colour 1 with a ss to next tr, working through BLO (see abbrev) make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 49tr, 1dc into top of 3tch on bag, 1dc into BLO of each of next 49tr, turn leaving 40tr un-worked for opening. (100dc)

Next Row – Working through both loops make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.

Loops for Tassels – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 36dc, work 1dc into BLO of next 26dc, working through both loops of stitch work 1dc into each of next 37dc. Turn.

Working through both loops from now on starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 2 more row of dc turning at the end of each row, making 5 dc rows worked in all for side panel. Turn.

Do not fasten off, change to 4.50mm hook.

Joining back to front
Place RS’s together, align work to first marker on back, make 1ch, working into same tr as marker ss through both loops of each dc on side panel and the back loops of the tr’s on the back piece (see pic) around to second marker. Fasten off leaving 40tr un-worked for opening. Turn through to right side.

Shell Edge – Using 4.50mm hook join colour 2 with a ss to top of 3ch on bottom of bag, working into loose loops (where you worked into the back of the stitch for side panel, (see pic 1) miss 1 loop, 5htr into next loop, * miss 1 loop, ss into next loop, miss 1 loop, 5htr into next loop, * rpt from * to * to last loop, miss last loop, ss to first ss. Fasten off.

Rpt Shell Edge on back of bag. Fasten off.

Shoulder Strap – Measures approx 38.5 Inches, reduce chains to make shorter.

Using 4.00mm hook make 171ch loosely, working into back bump of chain (see pic) work 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 2 more rows of 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.

Joining Strap to Bag – Making sure not to twist the strap sew each end to centre rows on side panels.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn on bag, attach medium button onto WS of back of bag, and fasten through gaps in tr’s on the front of the bag.

Tassels x 13 – Make 7 tassels in colour 1 and 6 tassels in colour 2

Cut 6 lengths of yarn approx 10 inches long for each tassel, if you prefer a longer or a thicker tassel just add more length and more strips.

Return to the 26 loose loops on side panel, * attach a tassel by folding in half and threading the cut ends through the loose loop, pull ends through tassel loop, pull tight to secure, miss 1 loop * rpt from * to * until 13 tassels have been used (you will have 1 loop un-used). Trim tassels so they are even.

Skip ch3 and 49dc, place the first color marker in next dc, skip 40dc, place the second color marker in next dc. Put the back of the bag to one side and we will come back to it later.

Front – Rpt 1st to 10th Rounds

Side Panel – With RS facing, skip 3tch and 89dc, join color 1 with a sl st to next dc, working through BLO (see abbrev) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 49dc, 1sc in top of 3tch on bag, 1sc in BLO of each of next 49dc, turn leaving 40dc un-worked for opening. (100sc)

Next Row – Working through both loops ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn.

Loops for Tassels – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 36sc, work 1sc in BLO of next 26sc, working through both loops of stitch work 1sc in each of next 37sc. Turn.

Working through both loops from now on starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 2 more row of sc turning at the end of each row, making 5 sc rows worked in all for side panel. Turn.

Joining back to front
Place RS’s together, align work to first marker on back, ch1, working in same dc as marker sl st through both loops of each sc on side panel and the back loops of the dc’s on the back piece (see pic) around to second marker. Fasten off leaving 40dc un-worked for opening. Turn through to right side.
