TENSION – 1 pattern rpt & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch

Front# # With colour 1 make 44ch loosely, Work 2tr into 4th ch from hook, miss 1ch, 1dc into next ch, * miss 2ch, 5tr into next ch, miss 2ch, 1dc into next ch, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch, miss 1ch, 3tr into last ch. Turn. (6, 5tr groups + 2 half groups)

First Pattern Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 2tr, work 5tr into the BLO (see abbrev) of next dc, miss 2tr, work 1dc into centre tr of 5tr group, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr, dc, 2tr and 3tch, miss 2tr, work 5tr into BLO of next dc, miss 2tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.

Second Pattern Row – 3ch, 2tr into base of 3ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into centre tr of 5tr group, * miss 2tr, work 5tr into BLO of next dc, miss 2tr, 1dc into centre tr of 5tr group, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and dc, miss 2tr, work 3tr into last dc. Turn.

Rpt First & Second Pattern Rows once. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2 and rpt First & Second Pattern Rows twice. Fasten off.

Join in colour 1 and rpt First & Second Pattern Rows four more times.

You should have 17 pattern rows worked in all. Turn.

Border – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * 1htr into dc, 1dc into each of next 5tr, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 2tr and 3tch, work 1htr into dc, 1dc into each of 2tr, 3dc into top of 3ch, work 25dc evenly along into row ends down first side of bag, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch along starting chain edge, 3dc into corner, work 25dc evenly along into row ends up second side of bag, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc on beginning of row. # # Fasten off.

Back – Rpt from # # to # # Turn.

Flap – (Dec Row) Join colour 1 to first dc at top of back piece, (same dc as 1st marker) working through BLO make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, dec 1dc (see abbrev) over next 2st, (twice) work 1dc into each st until last 5 stitches, dec 1dc over next 2st (twice) 1dc into last dc. Turn. (40dc)

Working through both loops from now on rpt the last row once.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 6 rows of 1dc into each dc to end, turning at the end of each row. (36dc)

Buttonhole Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 16dc, make 2ch, miss 2dc, 1dc into each of next 17dc. Turn.

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to 2ch space, work 2dc into 2ch space, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.

starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 2 rows of 1dc into each dc to end, turning at the end of each row.

Centre Point – ss over 17dc, 2dc into next dc, make 2ch, 2dc into next dc, ss into each dc to end. Fasten off.

Joining and Strap – Place front onto back, join colour 1 to dc on left hand corner as facing you, (see picture) working through the dc on the back and front of the bag, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc down first side of bag, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc along bottom of bag, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc up second side of bag, make 170ch loosely, (this is the strap) making sure you don’t twist chain length, ss to 1st dc on opposite side of flap. Turn.

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 170ch, (of strap) 1dc into each dc down first side of bag, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc along bottom of bag, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc up second side of bag, ss to first dc on strap. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, work 1ss into each dc along the three sides of the bag (first, bottom, second) and into each dc along strap, ss to the first ss on beginning of row. Fasten off.

Flower Motif – Made in continuous rounds without turning. Using colour 1 make a magic circle, make 1ch, work 12dc into circle, pull loose thread to close circle, ss to first dc.

Next Row – 1ch, ss into base of 1ch, * 4tr into next dc, ss into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, work 4tr into last dc, ss to first ss. Fasten off. (6, 4tr groups)

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn, attach button to correspond with buttonhole, secure flower to bag.
