Wattle Preemie Baby Coat

Wattle preemie baby coat, the instructions are written for a 12 inch chest premature baby or a 16 inch in length doll. This easy pattern is crocheted in one piece from the neck downwards, using a double crochet stitch yoke and a wattle stitch skirt.

For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

60 grams of Stylecraft Special DK yarn

4.00mm & 4.50mm crochet hooks

TENSION – 4tr and 2 rows of tr’s measures approx 1 Inch

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Worked in one piece starting with yoke.

With 4.00mm hook make 45ch, 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (42tr + 3ch)

2nd Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr and 3tch, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (52tr +3ch)

3rd Row – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

4th Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3tch, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into last tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (69tr +3ch)

5th Row – Rpt 3rd Row. Turn.

6th Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3tch, 2tr into last tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (92tr + 3ch)

7th Row – Rpt 3rd Row.

8th Row – (divide for armholes) Make 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, work 1dc into each of next 12tr, 2dc into next tr, miss 18tr, 2dc into next tr, 1dc into each of next 27tr, 2dc into next tr, miss 18tr, 2dc into next tr, 1dc into each of next 12tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (61dc)

Commence Skirt – With 4.50mm hook make 1ch, work (1dc, 1ch, 1tr) into the stitch at the base of 1ch, * miss 1dc, (1dc, 1ch, 1tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, miss 1dc, 1dc into last dc. Turn. (30 groups)

2nd Row – 1ch, miss 1tr, work (1dc, 1ch, 1tr) into the next 1ch space, work (1dc, 1ch, 1tr) into each 1ch space to end. Turn.

Rpt 2nd Row until 15 rows have been worked or work measures approx 8 inches from shoulder. Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 – With WS facing, join yarn to side of dc on base of armhole, (where you divided) make 1ch, work 1dc into the same stitch, 1dc into each tr around sleeve, 1dc into dc at the side of dc on opposite side of sleeve, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (20dc)

Next Row – 1ch, work (1dc, 1ch, 1tr) into the stitch at the base of 1ch, * miss 1dc, (1dc, 1ch, 1tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (10 groups)

Pattern Row – 1ch, miss 1tr, work (1dc, 1ch, 1tr) into the next 1ch space, work (1dc, 1ch, 1tr) into each 1ch space to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Row until 12 rows have been worked or under arm measurement is approx 3.5 inches. Fasten off.

Fronts & Neck Edging – Using 4.00mm hook, with RS facing, join yarn to lower edge on right hand side of cardigan, work 34dc evenly into row ends up first front edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each stitch around neck, 3dc into corner, 34dc evenly into row ends down second front edge to end. Turn.

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, work 1dc into each dc up the front to neck edge. Fasten off.

Return to first front edge and working from neck downwards, work 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.

Finishing – Close small gap underarms, weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn. Fasten off.

(Optional) you can fasten with ribbon bow on yoke or add a button and fasten through spaces between tr stitch.
