Easy Peasy Hooded Jacket – Simple single and double crochet stitches are used throughout this pattern, I have made it in a variegated yarn, but it will look just as nice in solid colors. See my easy peasy bonnet & pants and baby overalls

Easy peasy hooded jacket free baby crochet pattern, worked in one piece from the neck downwards, it is crocheted in a variegated with solid colour border light worsted #3 yarn (double knitting for UK users) with a 4.00mm crochet hook size.

The free crochet pattern is written for a multicoloured self striping double knitting or light worsted #3 yarn for the main part and hood of the jacket and a solid colour for the edging and cuffs.

Easy Peasy Hooded Jacket

Made in one piece working from yoke downwards.

With colour 1, make 57ch, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into the next 6ch, (front) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into next 8ch, (shoulder) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 19ch, (back) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 8ch, (shoulder) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 8ch. (front) Turn. (62tr + 3ch)

Row 2 – (Inc Row) 3ch, * 1tr into each tr to 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr on 3tr group, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr on 3tr group, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. (70tr + 3ch)

Continue increasing into the centre of the 3tr groups in the same way as the last row until 10 rows have been worked in all. (134tr + 3ch)

Row 11 – (Divide for Armholes) 3ch, 1tr into each of next 17tr, 2tr into next tr, miss 28tr (armhole) 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 39tr, 2tr into next tr, miss 28tr (armhole) 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 17tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (82tr + 3ch)

Row 12 to 20 – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Fasten off at the end of Row 20.

Sleeves x 2 – Join colour 1 to side of tr underarm, make 3ch, 1tr into each of next 28tr, 1tr into side of tr on opposite side of sleeve, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (29tr + 3ch)

Next Row – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to the top of 3ch on the beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt last row until 9 rows have been worked in all from yoke. Turn. Fasten off.

Cuff – With WS facing join colour 2, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (30dc)

Decrease Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 2dc, * dec 1dc (see abbrev) over next 2dc, 1dc into each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, dec 1dc over next 2dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (24dc)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt last row once. Fasten off.

Button/Buttonhole Bands – With RS facing, join colour 1 to neck edge on right front, work 1dc into each of next 54ch around neck to last, ss into ch, work 2ss loosely into each row end down front edge to corner, 1ch, 1dc into each tr along bottom of jacket, ss into top of 3ch on previous row, work 2ss loosely into each row end up front edge to corner, ss into corner, ss to first ss on beginning of row. Turn.

Fasten off. Join in colour 2.

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each ss down first front edge to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc along bottom of jacket, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ss up second front to neck edge. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1 more row of 1dc into each dc down first front, along bottom of jacket and up second front, working 3dc into corners. Turn.

Buttonhole Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc in next 9dc, * rpt from * to * three more times, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next dc, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc along bottom of jacket, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc to neck edge. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1 more row of 1dc into each dc and 2ch space around jacket fronts and bottom, working 3dc into the corners. Fasten off.

Hood – With colour 1, make 55ch loosely, 1tr into 4th ch from hook, (RS) 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (52tr + 3ch)

Next Row – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Rpt last row until 12 rows have been worked from beginning.

Fasten off. Join in colour 2.

Front Edge – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 3 more rows in dc stitch turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.

With WS facing, fold hood in half width ways and with colour 1 ss or over sew with needle and yarn cast on edges together.

With RS facing join colour 1 to neck edge on hood, starting with 1ch, work 54dc evenly along to end. Turn. Fasten off.

Attaching Hood to Jacket – Working on the WS and missing the button/buttonhole bands on both sides, attach hood to jacket by over sewing with needle and yarn or ss through back loop on jacket and front loop on hood. Fasten off.

Finishing – Close small gap under each arm, weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim off, attach the buttons to correspond with the buttonholes.

Button/Buttonhole Bands – With RS facing, join color 1 to neck edge on right front, work 1sc in each of next 54ch around neck to last, sl st in ch, work 2 sl st loosely in each row end down front edge to corner, ch1, 1sc in each dc along bottom of jacket, sl st in top of ch3 on previous row, work 2 sl st loosely in each row end up front edge to corner, sl st in corner, sl st to first sl st on beginning of row. Turn.

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sl st down first front edge to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc along bottom of jacket, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sl st up second front to neck edge. Turn.

Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1 more row of 1sc in each sc down first front, along bottom of jacket and up second front, working 3sc in corners. Turn.

Buttonhole Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in next 9sc, * rpt from * to * three more times, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in next sc, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc along bottom of jacket, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc to neck edge. Turn.

Next Row – ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, dc in top of ch3. Turn.

Rpt last row until 12 rows have been worked from beginning.

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

Front Edge – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each dc to end, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn.

Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 3 more rows in sc turning at the end of each row.

Fasten off.

With WS facing, fold hood in half width ways and with color 1 sl st or over sew with needle and yarn cast on edges together.

With RS facing join color 1 to neck edge on hood, starting with ch1, work 54sc evenly along to end. Turn. Fasten off.
