For a newborn baby use a 3.50mm hook and for a 0-3 month use a 4.00mm hook.

Button/Buttonhole Bands – (Instructions given for girl, swap sides for boy) With RS facing rejoin yarn to right hand side of back edge, (top of leg) make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 39 more dc evenly into row ends to neck edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch around neck, 3dc into corner, 40dc evenly into row ends down second back edge. Turn.
Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to corner, 1dc into corner. Fasten off. (41dc)
Buttonhole Row – Return to first back edge and starting from corner and working from neck downwards, with WS facing work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 6dc, * rpt from * to * 4 more times, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of the remaining dc. Fasten off. (6 buttonholes made)
Collar
First Side – With WS facing join yarn to 1st dc on neck edge, (after button band), 3ch, * miss 1dc, 1 vst into next dc, miss 1dc, 1 shell into next dc, * rpt from * to * 4 more times, miss 1dc, 1vst into next dc, miss 1dc, 1tr into next dc, turn leaving remaining stitches un-worked.
2nd & 3rd Rows – Make 3ch, work 1 vst into 1ch space of next vst, 1 shell into 1ch space on next shell, * rpt from * to * to last vst, work 1 vst into 1ch space of vst, 1tr into top of 3ch on beginning of row. Fasten off after 3rd Row. (5 shells, 6 vst, 1tr + 3ch)
Return to un-worked stitches on neck edge, miss 4dc, join yarn to next dc, follow instructions from 3ch onwards from first side of collar to last dc, work 1tr into dc. Turn.
Rpt 2nd & 3rd Rows from first side of collar. Fasten off.
Chain Tie x 2 – Make 80ch. Fasten off.
Pom-Pom x 2 – Make 2 small pom-poms I used the Clover Pom-Pom maker size 25.
Finishing – Close small gap under arms, sew ends of button bands to crotch, weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, attach buttons to back edge to correspond with buttonholes. Secure both chain ties to the inside of each back edge on the 7th Row of yoke and thread through alternate tr’s round to the centre of the front. Tie in a bow on the front and attach a pom-pom to each end. If collar is curling, tack down ends.
