From shoulder to finished length approx 7 inches
Sleeve length from under arm to cuff approx 4.5 inches

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

75 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in colour 1
Small amount of Stylecraft Special DK yarn in each of the colours 2 & 3

4.00mm crochet hook, 4 Small buttons

TENSION – 5tr and 2 rows measures approx 1 Inch

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Coat – (Back) With 4.00mm hook and colour 1 make 32ch loosely, # work 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, * miss 1ch, (1tr, 1ch, 1tr, 1ch, 1tr) into next ch, miss 1ch, 1dc into next ch * rpt from * to * to last 2ch, miss 1ch, 1tr into last ch. Turn. (7 groups)

Pattern Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * (1tr, 1ch, 1tr, 1ch, 1tr) into next dc, 1dc into centre tr of group * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into last dc. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Row until 7 rows have been worked or work measures approx 2.5 inches. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2, rpt Pattern Row until 13 rows have been worked from beginning or work measures approx 4.5 inches. Fasten off. #

Join in colour 3, rpt Pattern Row until 18 rows have been worked from beginning or work measures approx 6.5 inches. Fasten off.

First Front – With 4.00mm hook and colour 1 make 16ch loosely, work from # to # from back of coat. (3 groups)

Join in colour 3, rpt Pattern Row until 15 rows have been worked from beginning or work measures approx 5.5 inches. Turn.

Shape Neck – Work Pattern Row to last dc, group and dc, work (1tr, 1ch, 1tr, 1ch, 1tr) into dc, turn leaving last group and dc un-worked.

Next row – 1ch, 1dc into centre tr of first group, work Pattern Row to end. Turn.

Continue with Pattern Row on these stitches until front measures same as back. Fasten off.

Second front – Work same as first front to neck shaping. Fasten off. Turn.

Shape Neck – Miss 1tr and dc, re-join colour 3 to centre tr on first group, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, continue with Pattern Row on these stitches until front measures same as back. Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 – With 4.00mm hook and colour 1 make 24ch loosely, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, * miss 1ch, (1tr, 1ch, 1tr, 1ch, 1tr) into next ch, miss 1ch, 1dc into next ch, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch, miss 1ch, 1tr into last ch. Turn. (5 groups)

Work Pattern Row from back until 4 rows have been worked. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2 and rpt Pattern Row until 11 rows have been worked from beginning. Fasten off.

Cuff – With 4.00mm hook and RS facing rejoin colour 1 to opposite side of cast on edge, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work one more row in dc. Fasten off.

With WS facing join shoulder seams, fold sleeves in half lengthways, then placing folds to shoulder seams sew sleeves into position. Join side and sleeve seams. (see pic)

Front Edging – With WS facing and colour 1, start on left lower edge, work 1 row of dc evenly up right front, round neck, down left front and along bottom edge of coat working 3dc into each corner. Turn.

Buttonhole Row – Work 1dc into each dc along bottom of coat to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into next dc, * (2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next 6dc, * rpt from * to * twice, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc around neck to next corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc down front edge to corner, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc. Turn.

Working 3dc into corners and starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1 more row of 1dc into each dc and 2ch space around coat to end. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave any loose ends of yarn, attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes.

Hat – With 4.00mm hook and colour 1 make 51ch loosely, ss to first ch to form a ring, make 2ch, 1tr into each ch to end, ss to top of 2ch on beginning of row. Turn. (51tr + 2ch)

Next Row – 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to first tr on beginning of row. Turn. (52tr)

Rpt last row until 15 rows have been worked or work measures approx 6 inches from beginning. Turn. Fasten off.

Brim – Working into back loop of stitch only using colour 3 make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 1tr, (1tr, 1ch, 1tr, 1ch, 1tr) into next tr, miss 1tr, 1dc into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr, miss 1ch, (1tr, 1ch, 1tr, 1ch, 1tr) into next tr, miss 1tr, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (13 groups)

Next Row – 4ch, 1tr into base of 4ch, 1dc into centre tr of group, * (1tr, 1ch, 1tr, 1ch, 1tr) into next dc, 1dc into centre tr of next group, * rpt from * to * to end, work 1tr into base of 4ch, ss to 3rd of 4ch on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn.

Starting next row with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, join in colour 2 and rpt pattern rows as set 3 more times making 5 rows in all  for brim. Fasten off. Fold brim from loose loops onto front of hat.

Rejoin colour 1 to loose loops around bottom of brim and work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each loose loop to end, ss to first dc. Fasten off.

Chain Tie – With colour 2 and 4.00mm hook, make 55ch loosely. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim. With slip stitched seam in centre of back, thread chain tie through alternative tr’s on row 4 from cast on edge, gather up tightly and tie in a bow on the front of hat.
