TENSION – 4tr & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch

Back – With colour 1 make 50ch, 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. (47tr + 3ch)
2nd Row – (Rib) 3ch, work * 1fptr around next tr, 1bptr around next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3tch. Turn. (see abbrev for fptr & bptr)
Rpt 2nd Row three more times. Turn.
6th Row – 3ch, (RS) 1tr into each tr to last tr and 3tch, miss tr, work 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (46tr + 3ch)
7th Row – 3ch, miss 1tr, 1vst (see abbrev) into next tr, * miss 2tr, 1vst into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3ch, miss tr, work 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (15vst)

Rpt Rib Row three more times. Turn.
Increase Row – 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each tr to 3tch, 2tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (29tr + 3ch)
Keeping continuity of pattern as set (working vst & tr rows) increase 1tr each end of every row by working 1tr into base of 3ch and 2tr into top of 3tch at the end of each row until 42tr + 3ch remain. (see pic)
Continue without shaping until work measures approx 6.5 inches from beginning or 5 complete patterns have been worked in all. Fasten off.
Cuff – With colour 2 and WS facing, working along starting chain edge, work 1dc into each ch to end. (28dc)
Join shoulder seams, fold sleeves in half lengthways, place folds to shoulder seams whip stitch sleeves into position. Whip stitch side and sleeve seams together. Turn through.
Cardigan Edging (Right Front Band) – With RS facing and starting at lower edge of right front, join colour 1, make 3ch, work 2tr into each row end evenly up front to neck edge. Turn. (40tr + 3ch)
Rib Row – 3ch, * 1fptr around next tr, 1bptr around next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Fasten off.
Left front band – With RS facing and starting from neck edge, join colour 1, make 3ch, work 2tr into each row end evenly down front to lower edge. Turn. (40tr + 3ch)
Rpt Rib Row once. Fasten off.
Border – Join colour 2 to neck edge on right hand front, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each st down first front, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each st along bottom, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each st up second front edge. Fasten off.
Collar – Missing the button band, join colour 1 to the right hand side of neck edge, make 1ch, work 42dc evenly around neck, back and left side of neck edge, turn leaving left front band un-worked. (42dc)
Increase Row – Working into BLO (see abbrev) make 3ch, * 1tr into each of next 3dc, 2tr into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, 2tr into next dc, 1tr into last dc. Turn. (51tr + 3ch)
Rib Row – Working through both loops from now on make 3ch, * 1fptr around next tr, 1bptr around next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.
Rpt Rib Row 4 more times. Fasten off.
Border – Join colour 2 to side of neck on right hand side, work 2dc into each row end up first side, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each tr along top, 3dc into corner, 2dc into each row end down second side. Fasten off.
Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, sew 6 buttons evenly down front band, use holes in tr’s as buttonholes on opposite band. Secure collar to cardigan by tacking down in 3 places, (both of the fronts and the middle of the back)
Pants – With colour 1 make 102ch, ss to first ch to form a ring, make 3ch, work 1tr into each ch to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (101tr + 3ch)
Work Rib Row – Ending with 1fptr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.
Starting with a bptr, rpt Rib Row once, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.
4th Row – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.

First Leg – ss to next tr, make 4ch, 1tr into base of 4ch, * miss 2tr, 1vst into next tr, * rpt from * to * fifteen more times, miss 52tr, ss to 3rd of 4ch on beginning of row. Turn. (17vst)

Rpt 1st & 2nd Pattern Rows until work measures approx 12.5 inches from waist or a further 6 complete patterns have been worked from division, you should have 12 complete patterns in all from waist. Turn.
Starting with 3ch, work 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.
Work Rib Row twice, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Fasten off. #
Second Leg – With WS facing, return to where you divided for legs, miss 2tr, join colour 1 to next tr, make 4ch, 1tr into base of 4ch, * miss 2tr, 1vst into next tr, * rpt from * to * fifteen more times, ss to 3rd of 4ch on beginning of row. Turn.
Rpt from # to # on the first leg. (17vst)
Work 1 row of 1dc into each st around waist and each leg in colour 2, ss to first dc on beginning of rows. Fasten off.
Finishing – Close small gap on crotch, weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn. Turn through to RS. Thread ribbon through tr’s around waist and ankles and tie with bows.
Hat – Made in rounds without turning until the row before the brim.
With colour 1 leaving a strand of yarn, make 60ch, ss to first ch to form a ring, make 2ch, (RS) 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each ch to end, ss to first tr on beginning of row. (60tr)
Starting with 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, work 13 more rounds of 1tr into each tr to end, slip stitching to the first tr on the beginning of each row. Turn.
Brim – Working through BLO make 3ch, work 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round. Turn. (59tr + 3ch)
Rpt 1st & 2nd Pattern Rows from pants until 2 complete patterns have been worked. Fasten off. (20vst)
Work 1 row of 1dc into loose loops around base of brim in colour 2, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.
Pom-Pom – Using colour 2 make a pom-pom, I used Clover pom-pom maker number 65.
Finishing – Thread loose length of yarn through starting chain edge on crown to gather the top together, weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, attach pom-pom to crown, fold brim onto right side of hat.
