Button & Buttonhole Bands – With RS facing, 4.00mm hook and starting at lower edge on right hand side of front edge, rejoin yarn with a ss, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 47dc evenly along to neck edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each tr around neck, 3dc into last tr, work 48dc evenly down second front edge to end. Turn.
Button Band – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to neck edge, 1dc into centre dc of 3dc on corner. Turn. (50dc)
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.
Buttonhole Band
Return to first front edge and working from neck downwards with WS facing, rejoin yarn to centre dc of 3dc on corner, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 6dc, * rpt from * to * twice more, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of remaining dc. Turn. (4 buttonholes made)
Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc and 2ch space to end. Fasten off.
Finishing – Close small gaps under arms, weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
Bonnet – With 4.00mm hook and colour 1 make 8ch, ss to first ch to form a ring, work 3ch, 14tr into ring, join with ss to top of 3ch. (14tr + 3ch)
2nd Round – (Inc) Work 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 2tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch. (29tr + 3ch)
3rd Round – (Inc) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * 1tr into next tr, 2tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr, 1tr into tr, ss to top of 3ch. (44tr + 3ch)
4th Round – (Inc) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * 1tr into each of next 2tr, 2tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr, 1tr into each tr, ss to top of 3ch. (59tr + 3ch)
5th Row – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to last 3tr, turn leaving last 3tr un-worked. (56tr + 3ch)
6th Row – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.
Rpt 6th Row eight more times until there are 14tr rows in all from beginning. Turn.
Brim – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 1tr, work 5tr into next tr, miss 1tr, work 1dc into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3ch, miss 1tr, work 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.
Working into the BLO on all dc and through both loops on all tr’s.
Next Row – 3ch, 2tr into base of 3ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into centre tr of 5tr, * miss 2tr, work 5tr into next dc, miss 2tr, 1dc into centre tr of 5tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and dc, miss 2tr, work 3tr into last dc. Turn.
Rpt First & Second Pattern Rows from skirt of coat once in colour 2 and once in colour 1. (you should have 6 Pattern Rows in all) Fasten off.
Fold brim on to front of bonnet.
With colour 1, RS facing and starting with 3ch, work one row of tr stitch evenly along the neck edge catching both sides of the brim in as you go. Fasten off.
Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, thread ribbon through alternate tr’s along neck edge and tie in a bow.
Booties – Made in rounds without turning until Row 7.
With 4.00mm hook and colour 1, make 14ch, 3tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into next 9ch, 7tr into last ch. Working on opposite-side of cast on ch, work 1tr into next 9ch, 3tr into last ch, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (31tr + 3ch)
